Cooper, Donoso named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Mark Cooper and Max Donoso have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending January 4, 2026.
Mark Cooper, Hockey, Toronto Varsity Blues
In an offensive showcase at Varsity Arena on Sunday, Cooper helped lift the University of Toronto Varsity Blues to a 7-6 overtime victory over the Guelph Gryphons in front of their home crowd. The veteran defenseman delivered three assists in the victory, including setting up Sean Clarke's game-winner in overtime.
A stellar playmaker from the blueline, Cooper has tallied a point in three straight games and has inked his number on the scoresheet now in 12 of 16 games so far this season.
The Cambridge, Ont. product leads the OUA with 16 total assists and ranks second among all defensemen in U SPORTS.
Max Donoso, Hockey, Windsor Lancers
Donoso backstopped the Windsor Lancers to two key wins over the Brock Badgers that moved them into a tie for first place in the OUA West this weekend.
The second-year goalie made a total of 72 saves and allowed just two goals while playing all 120 minutes of both contests. Donoso stopped 41 shots to hold off the Badgers on Saturday, including 22 in a third-period push by the Badgers. The local product backed up that performance with another 31 saves on Sunday.
He now holds 1.97 goals against average on the season, good for second in the OUA. His .930 save percentage puts him fifth in the league.
