Brock Badgers swimmer Jessie MacLean sprinted to a CIS qualifying performance on Sunday January 17th at the University of Toronto. The first year Physical Education student from Toronto will be joining teammate Rachel Nogard at the top meet in Canadian University swimming, the CIS Championships hosted in Quebec City February 26th-28th.
Badgers' MacLean qualifies for CIS Championships
Brock Badgers swimmer Jessie MacLean sprinted to a CIS qualifying performance on Sunday January 17th at the University of Toronto. The first year Physical Education student from Toronto will be joining teammate Rachel Nogard at the top meet in Canadian University swimming, the CIS Championships hosted in Quebec City February 26th-28th.
Jessie qualified in the 50m Freestyle, clocking 26.66 to break through the CIS standard of 26.71. She was competing with her teammates at the Eastern Cup competition in Toronto, which featured top swimmers from Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia.
Other top performances at the Eastern Cup included Rachel Nogard (Ancaster, ON) as a finalist in both 100m and 200m Butterfly events, and Curtis Li (Oakville, ON) snagging a B Final win for the Men's team in the 50m Breaststroke.
Badger Swimming hosts a final competition with the University of Waterloo on Saturday, January 30th before competing at the 2016 Ontario University Championships February 11-13 hosted at Western University.

Ten top three performances for Gee-Gees at Winter Invitational
The Gee-Gees closed out a busy weekend of competition with a short course competition at the University of Toronto Pool. The OUA Winter Invitational retained many of the CIS competitors from the Eastern Cup which ran long course events on Friday and Saturday. uOttawa's swimmers made use of the chance to add more races to an intense period of training; all times are slower than usual due to the time of the season within the overall tapering plan as the team looks towards the OUA and CIS Championships in February.
Men:
Connor Michie collected a gold medal for the Gee-Gees in the 200-metre breastroke (2:17.15). Michie also touched the wall just behind teammate Montana Champagne in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.67. Champagne was golden in the 100-metre backstroke, posting a time of 59.45. He also placed fourth in the 200 IM (2:08.73), two places behind teammate Robert Bonomo. Bonomo finished the meet with three second place finishes in the 50m freestyle (23.36), the 50m butterfly (24.96) and the 200 IM (2:07.47).
Women:
Rookie sensations Erin Power (Uxbridge, Ont.) and Delphine Vandal (Shelburne, VT) met success this weekend, capturing a first place finishes in the 100-metre backstroke (1:04.64) and second in the 400m freestyle (4:31.14) at the Winter Invitational. Veteran Carolyne Godon earned a second place finish medal for the Gee-Gees in the 50m breaststroke (34.16). Teammate Marie-Pier Dangle touched the wall third in the 100m backstroke (1:04.93) and fifth in the 50m backstroke (30.00), while second-year Mackenzie Finkbeiner finished third in the 400m freestyle (4:31.39).
This competition closed out a positive weekend for the Gee-Gees in the pool which puts them in a great headspace to be successful in the upcoming OUA Championships.
