Pair of Golden Hawks swimmer shine at Parapan Am Games
TORONTO (August 18, 2015) - A pair of Canadian swimmers with ties to the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks swimming program shone at the 2015 Parapan Am Games which wrapped up in Toronto this past weekend.
TORONTO (August 18, 2015) - A pair of Canadian swimmers with ties to the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks swimming program shone at the 2015 Parapan Am Games which wrapped up in Toronto this past weekend.
Incoming recruit Alec Elliot, a native of Kitchener, Ont., had a big meet for the red and white as he won five bronze medals while an alumni of the program, Adam Purdy of London, Ont., captured three medals, one silver and two bronze.
Elliot, who has been swimming with the Region of Waterloo Swim Club since he was a child, won bronze medals in the 100m Breaststroke, the 100m Backstroke, the 100m Butterfly, the 200m Individual Medley and the 400m Freestyle.
Meanwhile Purdy, who swam with the Golden Hawks from 2001/02 to 2003/04, won his silver medal in the 50m Backstroke and his bronze medals in the 20pt Mixed Relay as well as the 50m Butterfly.
In total, Canada finished the week-long event with 91 medals, including 24 gold, 39 silver and 28 bronze. They finished second in the pool behind only Brazil who captured 104 medals at the event.
