OUA LACROSSE ROUNDUP: HAWKS REMAIN UNDEFEATED
Laurier came out with all cylinders firing. Kirsten Gerrier (Orillia, Ont.) and Heather McHardy (Whitby, Ont.) scored in the first five minutes to put the Hawks up 2-0. Gaels answered back with two goals of their own but the Hawks surged ahead in the seesaw battle on goals by Gerrie and Amanda Groothuis (Kitchener, Ont.). Again Queen's rose to the challenge scoring three times and taking the lead 5-4.
Laurier senior Megan Fox (Whitby, Ont.) then found the net two times in less than a minute. Braedyn O'Rahilly (Whitby, Ont.) then added to the lead at 21:14. Gaels spirit was not yet broken however and they would score three more times before Hawks rookie Megan Austriaco (Rockwood, Ont.) knotted the match at 8-8 in the last minute of the first half.
The Hawks used the halftime break to make some adjustments to their defence hoping to slow the Gaels attack. It seemed to pay off as Laurier's Amy Fincham (Whitby, Ont.) scored early followed by another marker from Fox.
Queen's player Lisa McLaughlin (Whitby, Ont.) was able to put the ball past Hannah Burnett (Whitby, Ont.) at the 10 minute mark of the half to bring them back to within one. Fox's fourth goal of the match proved to be the turning point as the Hawks would score three unanswered goals (Fox, Gerrie, Fincham) and take the lead by a score of 13–9.
While the Gaels stepped up the intensity in the final 15 minutes making the match, the most physical one of the season for the Hawks so far, they were only able to score once more while the Hawks continued to control the ball and scored two late goals (O'Rahilly and McHardy) to seal the victory.

QUEEN'S 18, GUELPH 7
KINGSTON, Ont. – Jackie Byers (Mississauga, Ont.) scored six times and added an assist as the Gaels defeated Guelph 18-7 Sunday afternoon.
The Gaels, who fell short to Western and Laurier on Saturday, were looking to rebound. The Gaels came out striking as Heidi Krosnozski (Brampton, Ont.) scored just 1:11 into the game.
The Gaels would dominate the first half scoring seven goals before Guelph got onto the score sheet. Queen's went into the half with a commanding 10-1 lead.
Guelph scored three quick goals to climb back into the game. Queen's however was just too much as Byers led the Gaels to victory in the second half with four goals.
Lisa Mclaughlin (Whitby, Ont.) had another strong showing tallying four goals in the winning effort. Mclaughlin is now in third place in OUA scoring with 25 and Byers is right behind her in fourth with 22.
With a 6-3 record the Gaels stay in second position after the weekend despite the two losses on Saturday. Queen's will have some time to rest as they will not play again until Oct. 18 when they travel to London to take on McMaster.
