RYERSON SLATED TO HOST 2013 WILSON CUP FINAL FOUR
OUA men’s basketball playoffs presented by Investors Group tipoff on February 20 with the East and West quarter-final games, followed by the divisional semifinals on February 23. The 2013 Wilson Cup at Ryerson University marks the third year that the men’s basketball championship will be played at a predetermined site.
“The Mattamy Athletic Centre is one of the finest sport facilities in the country. OUA is so pleased that Ryerson University is the host of the 2013 Wilson Cup,” said Ward Dilse, OUA Executive Director. “It’s been the site of so many outstanding sport and entertainment events throughout Canadian history and we are excited to count the Wilson Cup among them.”
“The OUA Wilson Cup is a jewel in the crown of Canadian university athletics as it has produced eight of the last nine national champions,” said Dr. Ivan Joseph, Ryerson University Athletic Director. “This is a perfect opportunity for Ryerson University and the city to showcase on the national stage, the passionate basketball fans of Toronto and the multipurpose nature of the Mattamy Athletic Centre as it converts to a world class basketball arena.”
Recharge with Milk will be the presenting sponsor and official recovery beverage for the 2013 OUA Wilson Cup. Through Dairy Farmers of Canada's (DFC) Recharge with Milk campaign, the organization promotes chocolate milk as a recovery beverage. Chocolate milk's combination of carbohydrates, high-quality protein, fluid and electrolytes first made researchers take notice of a potential post-workout recovery benefit. Chocolate milk has all of these nutritional attributes to help refuel and repair exhausted muscles. A growing body of evidence suggests that milk can be an effective sports drink, helping athletes refuel and recover. And, let's face it - it tastes great!
"Supporting OUA is the natural thing to do for Dairy Farmers of Canada," said Solange Heiss, Assistant Director, Marketing and Nutrition Communications at DFC. "It is important for Dairy Farmers of Canada to support events like the Wilson Cup Final Four as research continues to point out the many benefits of drinking chocolate milk as an effective post-workout beverage."
The Score Television Network will broadcast each of the Final Four men’s basketball games over March 1 and 2. The Score Television Network will broadcast the bronze medal game live on Saturday at 4 p.m. and follow it up with coverage of the championship final at 6 p.m. as the top two teams in the province vie for the prestigious Wilson Cup.
