WESTERN WOMEN WIN, MEN PLACE SECOND AT WESTERN INVITATIONAL
Mustang No. 3 player Cheryl Beech (Forest, Ont.) had a rough start but turned it around to win the overall title shooting 79. Teammates Stepanie Grenier (Sherbrooke, Que.), 80, and Lisa Boyko (Mississauga, Ont.), 81, weren't far behind to finish second and third respectively.
Jenn Mound (Unionville, Ont.) shot an 87 and also played well, but only the top three scores were taken for the team score.
Western's overall score was 240 for first overall in the team category. Queen's placed second (256), 16 shots off the lead, while Waterloo was third, 26 shots behind the Mustangs.
Coaches Karen Danylchuk and Sue Postian were very pleased with the play of the team. Western also entered four individual players into the tournament with Margaux Ullett (Calgary, Alta.) shooting 91, Hilary Bennett (Fenelon Falls, Ont.) shooting 97, Sarah Mecredy (Mississauga, Ont.) shooting 89 and Wesley Janzen (Kapuskasing, Ont.) shooting 95.
"The course was difficult today," Danylchuk said. "The greens were fast... It was very helpful for us to have had a practice round on the course before."
