FORBES REPRESENTS CANADA AT FISU WORLD GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
This is Forbes second trip to the international championship. Last year he represented Canada while the games were held in Bangkok, Thailand.
Joining Forbes on the Canadian team will be six of the top seven finishers at the 2008 RCGA University Championship including individual champion Andrew Robb of Richmond, B.C., of UBC. Accompanying Robb are Thunderbird teammate Cory Renfrew (5th RCGA) of Victoria, Laval's Mathieu Gingras (3rd RCGA) of Moncton, Queen's Patrick Forbes (4th RCGA) of Toronto, Western Ontario's Charles Fitzsimmons (6th RCGA) of Toronto, and Victoria's Parker Lilly (7th RCGA) of Victoria.
The five-athlete women's roster is comprised of the top five finishers at the 2008 RCGA University College Championships including Christina Spence Proteau of Cobble Hill, B.C., who captured the individual crown and led the University of Victoria women to the team title.
Spence Proteau will be joined in South Africa by UVic teammate Anne Balser (5th RCGA) of Digby, N.S., UBC's Marianne Banton (2nd RCGA) of Woodinville, Wash., and Alyssa Human (4th RCGA) of Kamloops, B.C., as well as Humber College's Bev Peel (3rd RCGA) of Schomberg, Ont.
Canadian team leader Ray Chateau from Humber College will work with a coaching staff comprised of Waterloo's Carla Munch, UOIT's Mike Duggan, Victoria's Bryan Carbery and Western Ontario's Karen Danylchuk.
Canada has competed at the FISU golf championships since 2002. The men's team had its best result at the last championships in Italy in 2006 with a fourth-place finish, while the women had their best finish in Thailand in 2004 with an eighth position and placed 11th in 2006.
