Chadwick, Cole, Dorey-Havens, Jarov, Mackay named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Daryan Chadwick, Gabby Cole, Aubrey Dorey-Havens, Seraphim Jarov, and Jackson Mackay have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending March 8, 2026.
Daryan Chadwick, Brock Badgers, Volleyball
Chadwick led the Brock Badgers to their fourth OUA Quigley Cup championship in the last five years, besting the McMaster Marauders 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-23, 25-18) at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Friday, night. She recorded a career-high and game-high 18 points off 17 kills and one service ace.
In the first set, the third-year outside hitter delivered four points from three kills and one service ace to give the Badgers the one set lead. Combining for six kills in the second and third sets, Chadwick capped off her career performance with her best showing in the fourth frame. After her first kill put the Badgers up 1-0, Chadwick added six more, helping ignite a run that pushed Brock ahead 18-9 before closing it out 25-18.
This standout performance earned her OUA Player of the Game recognition, in what was a redemption win for the Badgers as they fell in last year's final to this same Marauders team 3-0.
Gabby Cole, Guelph Gryphons, Track & Field
Cole, a fourth-year sprinter from the Guelph Gryphons track and field program medaled in all four events she competed in at the 2026 U SPORTS Track and Field Championships. The culture and technology major kicked off her meet on Thursday putting up a blazing time of 7.20s in the women’s 60m to claim U SPORTS gold. The time was a personal best and broke her own school record. The 7.20 time also matched the qualifying standard for the upcoming World Athletics Indoor Championships. Cole was just one-hundredth of a second short of the U23 and U SPORTS record of 7.19, set by Canadian Olympian Khamica Bingham back in 2015.
The following day in the women’s 300m, Cole ran a time of 37.73 to win the silver medal as she finished behind her teammate Dianna Proctor as the Gryphons went 1-2 in the finals. The Ajax, Ont. native wrapped up her meet with a pair of relay medals, winning gold in the women’s 4x400m relay alongside her teammates Dianna Proctor, Amira Lawrence and Erika Lealess and silver in the women’s 4x200m relay alongside Proctor, Lawrence and Nicole McKenzie, despite posting a time of 1:35.37 which broke the previous U SPORTS record as were edged by the Saskatchewan Huskies Women's 4x200m relay team who set the new mark.
Cole and the women’s track and field team finished with 105 points to claim their ninth national championship in program history.
Aubrey Dorey-Havens, Carleton Ravens, Basketball
Carleton’s Dorey Havens was a key factor in the Ravens capturing the U SPORTS men’s basketball national championship this past weekend in Calgary, Alta. The third-year guard was nearly unstoppable from beyond the arc in the final game. The North Vancouver, B.C. product connected on nine three-pointers while scoring 35 points and adding six rebounds and five assists while playing 37 minutes in the championship contest against the Bishop’s Gaiters. Dorey-Havens was awarded the Jack Donohue Trophy for his performance during the championship.
Dorey-Havens had a solid championship, putting up 15 points and four rebounds in the Ravens opening contest against the Laval Rouge et Or and recording five points and six rebounds against OUA counterparts the TMU in the semifinals.
Seraphim Jarov, Toronto Varsity Blues, Fencing
Jarov struck gold twice at the 2026 OUA Men's Fencing Championship in Waterloo this past weekend. The epee specialist returned to the top step of the podium on Day 1 of the provincial showcase. After a perfect 6-0 round-robin record earned him a bye through the Round of 32, he would go on to claim four more victories to remain undefeated and win the Desjarlais Trophy and OUA all-star honours as individual epee champion.
He then joined his epee teammates on Day two for the relay finishing 3-0 in round-robin matches and 3-0 in elimination matches, including Jarov earning the gold medal clinching point in a decisive 45-22 event final win over second-seed Western. The Vancouver, B.C. product continues a string of success in the epee event for the University of Toronto, with Varsity Blues fencers winning the individual and team relay titles in six of the last seven championships.
Jackson Mackay, Western Mustangs, Track & Field
MacKay put up an outstanding performance at his first U SPORTS Track and Field Championships this past weekend. The London, Ont. local won gold in the heptathlon with a U SPORTS record 5607 points. Not only did the first year win the overall event, but he also set new U SPORTS records in heptathlon hurdles (8.04s) and heptathlon high jump (2.02m) in the process.
MacKay also placed fifth in open hurdles and seventh in open pole vault. His impressive performance all weekend long helped the Western Mustangs men’s track and field team claim the national team title.
Prior to the U SPORTS Championships, Mackay was named the U SPORTS rookie of the year.
