Sundara, Scollon named OUA athletes of the week

Burlington, Ont. – Sullie Sundara and David Scollon have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending November 10, 2024. 

Sullie Sundara, Volleyball, McMaster Marauders

The fourth-year captain led the undefeated McMaster Marauders to two victories against the Guelph Gryphons over the weekend. McMaster had a convincing 3-0 win on Friday night and backed up that performance with a 3-2 five set win on Saturday.

Sundara recorded a total of 37 points, earning 15 kills on Friday evening and 17 kills on Saturday. The fourth-year social psychology major also managed a combined 27 digs and three blocks over both contests.

Sundara and the No. 2 nationally ranked Marauders look to maintain their perfect record as they face the also undefeated Western Mustangs this weekend.

David Scollon, Rugby, Guelph Gryphons

Scollon scored two pivotal tries helping the Guelph Gryphons men's rugby team to their fourth consecutive OUA championship on Friday night. The fifth-year hooker came up big for the Gryphons, scoring the game-tying try in the 65th minute to level the score at 21-21 and scoring the decisive go-ahead try in the 73rd minute to give the Gryphons the 28-21 lead over the Queen's Gaels.

The Mississauga, Ont. native scored both his tries in similar fashion with his team winning the lineout, as they would push him in the maul, moving the Gaels back towards their goal line until he scored.

Scollon’s points were the difference for his team as they would defeat the Gaels 31-21 to hoist the Turner Trophy for a fourth straight season.
