Sheerin, Maheshe named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Siobhan Sheerin and Ousman Maheshe have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending October 20th, 2024.
Siobhan Sheerin, Rugby, Queen’s
Sheerin solidified a strong start to Queen’s OUA women’s rugby title defence with her semifinal performance this past weekend.
The Toronto, Ont. native recorded a game-high three tries in the Gaels' 72-0 win over the Western Mustangs in the penultimate round of play. She scored the first two tries for the Tricolour to give them the early lead before solidifying her outing with a third and final score.
The big win Friday night at Nixon Field helped Queen's remain undefeated on the season and set up an OUA Championship rematch with the Guelph Gryphons. Sheerin ended the regular season tied for 16th in the OUA with 25 points (five tries).
Ousman Maheshe, Soccer, Carleton
Maheshe was pivotal in the Carleton Ravens’ first round playoff victory over the Laurentian Voyagers on Saturday, providing more than enough offence to secure his team the win.
The Edmonton, Alta. product secured a hat trick in the 4-1 triumph. His productive day began when he opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, before doubling the lead in the 79th. The third-year forward capped off his second hat trick of the season in added time.
Maheshe had five shots and three shots on goal in the contest and will once again be a focal point of the Carleton offence as they advance to the quarterfinal round this week.
