Daniela Sheinin is a fourth-year student at Trent University working towards an undergraduate degree in History. A team captain of the varsity swim team, this year Daniela posted qualifying times for the 2011 CIS Championships.
Daniela is a shining example of what a student-athlete should be. Away from campus she volunteers for numerous non-profit committees with particular emphasis on helping St. John’s Ambulance. She regularly teaches courses to youth in the community, including Jamaica Self Help and is active in the Service for Seniors program, lending a hand to senior citizens in the area.
On campus, she excels in the classroom, being named an Academic All-Canadian for two straight years and has presented her work to the Middle Atlantic Council of Latin American Studies. Congratulations Daniela!
What is your proudest academic achievement?
Presenting a paper at last year’s Middle Atlantic Council of Latin American Studies annual conference in Pittsburgh.
What is your proudest athletic achievement?
Qualifying for the CIS championship for the first time last February.
What is your most memorable community related moment?
Teaching first aid to elementary school children as part of a summer safety school program through St. John Ambulance.
What woman has most influenced you, and why?
My mom. She has always set an example for me as an extremely hard worker, and always insists I set goals for myself beyond what I think is possible.
What are your future plans?
Next year I’ll be attending the University of Toronto pursuing an MA in American history, then eventually on to a PhD and career in academia.
Join OUA as Heather speaks about her career on and off the field, and inspires a unique group of accomplished young women to continue to pursue excellence in sport and in life.
