Laurentian's Emily Jones has been a major asset for the Aqua Vees since her first year at Laurentian. A testament to her hard work, she has placed in the top 10 at the OUA Championships in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke in each of the past three years, culminating with a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke at the most recent OUA Championships. Emily’s growth is apparent at the CIS level as well when she finished with two top 10 finishes at this year’s CIS Championships. In addition to her varsity swim schedule, Emily qualified for the Commonwealth Games Trials last year and the Olympic Trials this year.
Out of the pool, Emily has maintained at least an 80 percent average throughout her university career, earning Academic All-Canadian recognition the last two years and on pace for another award this year. Over the last few years Emily has helped coach and officiates with the Orangeville Otters Swim Club, She also volunteers with swimming lessons and teaches sailing lessons. Congratulations Emily!

My proudest athletic achievements have been my OUA bronze medals and placing as a CIS finalist for the past three years.
What is your most memorable community related moment?
I love being able to help teach swimming to the younger generation at my old club team, and be there for them to volunteer coach at their first few swim meets
What woman has most influenced you, and why?
Julia Wilkinson (Canadian Olympic Swimmer) has helped me a lot with the articles she publishes about her swimming, especially the ones explaining her struggles through the sport and how she is able to work on them and overcome them.
What are your future plans?
To finish off my undergrad (4 or 5 years, undecided), and continue to train hard to see how well I can finish off my swimming career. After my undergrad, I plan on going into Physical Therapy or Chiropractic.
