Chisari, Findlay, Fair named OUA football players of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Jared Chisari, Jackson Findlay, and Campbell Fair have been named Canadian Football Perspective’s OUA Players of the Week for Week 6.
Offensive Player of the Week – Jared Chisari, Queen’s
It was a record-setting day for Jared Chisari, as the Queen’s running back wreaked havoc all game long in the Gaels impressive showing against York on Saturday.
Chisari, a product of Naples, ME, made his mark early and often on the ground for Gaels, starting with a 10-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. He would add two more majors before the break, registering 39-yard and 20-yard touchdowns, respectively, but that was still just the start. The third-year back made engineered another two scores on the day, including a 49-yard effort for Queen’s final points of the day, to finish with a program-record five majors in the game.
A big part of Chisari chasing down the Gaels’ record was his impressive yardage on the day, which featured 286 yards on the ground on 17 carries. His efforts also anchored a lofty rise up the OUA leaderboard, now ranking tied for first with seven rushing touchdowns and second in yards per game at 124.4.
Defensive Player of the Week – Jackson Findlay, Western
In a matchup between two undefeated, nationally-ranked squads that was closely contested down the wire, Jackson Findlay stepped up with some significant defensive stands for his Western Mustangs.
Findlay, now a two-time defensive player of the week in the OUA, continued to showcase his many talents as part of a stingy performance overall from the country’s top-ranked team. The North Vancouver, B.C. native’s efforts were pivotal in keeping the No. 4 Lancers to just 10 points on the game, not the least of which came on his turnover-forcing plays.
The first came early in the second half, with Windsor threatening to add to their then 10-8 lead, before Findlay intercepted the Danny Skelton pass at the Western 32-yard line. The science major would add a sack on the Lancers’ next possession, before shutting down Windsor’s final possession of the game with his second pick of the afternoon.
The third-year defensive back would also add 5.5 tackles in Western’s 21-10 win.
Special Teams Player of the Week – Campbell Fair, Ottawa
It was familiar territory for Campbell Fair in this weekend’s Panda Game, as the veteran Ottawa Gee-Gees kicker once again delivered with the game on the line.
After being faced with a game-winning kick in 2021 and knocking a 45-yarder through the uprights to give his team the 19-17 win over Carleton, Fair was handed an even taller task in the 54th edition of the annual rivalry game. With the Gee-Gees trailing by one and the clock running down, the senior from Carrying Place, Ont. stared down a 55-yard attempt for the win, and with a sold-out TD Place crowd awaiting the result on the edge of their seats and no time left on the clock, Fair delivered in a big way.
As part of the low-scoring affair, Fair also chipped in with two extra points and a rouge to account for a third of the Ottawa offence overall in one of the biggest games on the varsity calendar. For good measure, Fair also found success in the punting game, averaging 40.6 yards across eight punts and even rushing 15 yards for a first down on a Gee-Gees fake punt attempt.
