Five unbeaten teams after Day One of OUA Curling Championship
Five teams on both the men's & women's sides off to 2-0 starts after Day 1 of the 2016 OUA Curling Championships
GUELPH, ON - A total of 31 teams from across the province gathered at the Guelph Curling Club on Thursday, February 11 for Day 1 of 5 of the 2016 OUA Curling Championships. The tournament, which features 15 universities on the women's side and 16 on the men's, will culminate on Family Day Monday (February 15) with the top three teams on both the men's and women's sides earning a spot in the CIS Curling Championships March 20-23 in Kelowna, B.C.
After a busy opening day of competition at the 2016 OUA Championships, a total of five teams on both the men's and women's sides are off to perfect 2-0 starts, including the defending champion Laurier Golden Hawks. Other teams boasting 2-0 records on the men's side are Brock, Lakehead, McMaster and Queen's. On the women's side, Laurentian, Western, Toronto and Brock are also all off to 2-0 starts.

Looking to build off of a silver medal performance a year ago, the Brock women had convincing wins on Thursday, winning 6-2 over Ryerson and 8-5 over Lakehead. The Ryerson Rams, playing in their first OUA championship, picked up their first wins with their women's team defeating Algoma 10-5 and the Ryerson men defeating Carleton 9-5. The Rams are one of nine teams to own a 1-1 record heading into Friday.
The host men's team, Guelph Gryphons, struggled losing a pair of close games in extra ends to both Queen's (6-7) and Toronto (4-5). The Gryphons will look for their first win when they play UOIT Friday afternoon. The Gryphon women meanwhile started off the tournament with a 8-4 victory over Algoma before falling 8-6 to Queen's.
Day 2 of competition begins Friday morning at 8:30am.
