
Banner Season: Laurier, Laurentian and Toronto join Guelph in semifinals on Sunday morning
Ajax, Ont. - The defending champion Toronto Varsity Blues came through with a pair of victories on Saturday to secure their spot in the OUA Baseball Championship semifinal on Sunday morning.
Toronto first had a satement 9-1 win over the second-seeded Brock Badgers. Brock entered the game 2-0 before the defeat to Toronto. The Varsity Blues then followed up with a close 3-2 win over McMaster to stay perfect at 3-0 for the round robin. Sebastian Lech went 4-4 with two runs and a pair of RBI's while Dean Christidis had a 7 inning one run performance on the mound for the Varsity Blues over Brock.
Joining Pool B champion Toronto is Pool A champion Guelph who completed their round robin play Saturday morning with a 5-2 win over Ryerson.
Pool C came down to the final game of the day to determine a winner. After a big 11-5 win over Windsor behind a 3-4 performance at the plate from shortstop Shane Patterson, the Voyageurs clinched a semifinal spot with a solid showing over Waterloo 9-2 to claim the Pool C top spot.
Earning a wildcard spot with a 2-1 record and a +10 run differential is the top seeded Laurier Golden Hawks. Behind a stellar pitching performance that saw Christian Huack throw a one-hit shutout of the Queen's Gaels, Laurier was able to earn the final semifinal spot.
The action kicks off Sunday morning at 10 am with both semifinals. Laurier will meet Laurentian in semifinal one while Toronto will battle Guelph in the second semifinal. The winners will then battle for OUA supremacy at 1 pm at the Ajax Sportsplex. Both the semifinals and the championship final will be nine inning games on Sunday.
