MALE: Cameron Seth (Fergus, Ont.) – 4th yr. – Waterloo Warriors – Squash
The fourth-year Computer Science student successfully defended his OUA men’s individual squash title on home court at the OUA Championship this past weekend in Waterloo.
Seth won all three of his elimination games on Sunday, and came back from being down 2-1 in the OUA semi-final to win in five sets.
In the finals, he avenged an earlier round robin loss to Western’s James Van Staveren, winning in straight sets (11-8, 11-9, 11-8) to capture the gold medal.
He was later named an OUA All-Star and MVP of the tournament.
FEMALE: Jylisa Williams (Atlanta, GA) – 5th yr. – Lakehead Thunderwolves – Basketball
Lakehead’s fifth-year guard continued her MVP-calibre season this past weekend leading the Thunderwolves to their sixth and seventh wins in a row.
Williams scored 28 points along with nine rebounds, and five steals on Friday, Jan. 30 in her team’s 92-47 win against the Waterloo Warriors, and followed it up on Saturday night with one of her best games of the season.
Going against the No. 5-ranked Laurier Golden Hawks, Williams dominated all game, scoring almost half of Lakehead’s points, putting up 36 in a 73-59 win. She also turned in a strong defensive performance, grabbing 16 rebounds and two steals.
Williams remains the CIS leading scorer, averaging 28 points per game, and is a primary reason the Thunderwolves have won seven in a row and lead the OUA Central Division.
