McDougall, O'Brien, Watson, Wheeler-Dee named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Alexandra McDougall, Rosie O'Brien, Riley Watson, and Jude Wheeler-Dee have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending October 26th, 2025.
Alexandra McDougall, Cross Country, Guelph Gryphons
McDougall was the first to cross the line out of 94 racers at the OUA cross country championships, winning her third race of the season, and provincial gold. Guelph Gryphons’ McDougall was dominant from start to finish as she clocked in with a time of 26:50.5 over 8 KM, 48 seconds ahead of her next closest racer.
The biomedical engineering student becomes the thirteenth women's individual cross country champion in Gryphon program history. The finish also gave McDougall OUA first team all-star status.
Rosie O'Brien, Rowing, Carleton Ravens
O'Brien became the first women's rower in Carleton Ravens history to earn a gold medal when she captured the conference’s singles title at the OUA rowing championship. Along the way she also snapped a drought of more than a decade since Matthew Fournier last won gold for the program.
The Ottawa, Ont. rower’s magnificent solo performance and fourth-place finish in doubles earned her the OUA rowing women’s athlete of the year award.
Riley Watson, Rowing, Brock Badgers
The Badgers men's rowing team earned their fifth consecutive OUA title on the weekend, highlighted by two gold medals from Watson. The medical sciences student and teammate Jonas Masys crossed the finish line in six minutes, 54 seconds and 503 milliseconds, taking home gold in the men's double race.
Watson was a key contributor for the Badgers in the lightweight eights event, earning Brock's second out of five golds with an impressive time of 6:04.149. The third-year rower's strong season was recognized as he earned the OUA men's athlete of the year award.
Jude Wheeler-Dee, Cross Country, Queen’s Gaels
Wheeler-Dee earned the individual gold medal at the OUA cross country championships with a final time of 23:26.7 in the 8 KM race. The local Kingston, Ont. product was with the lead pack for the first three laps of the four-lap course before pulling ahead and cruising to victory, six seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Wheeler-Dee also helped the Gaels win the team gold medal, with a combined score of 50 points, followed by Guelph earning the silver medal with 69 points, and McMaster earning the bronze with 80 points.
