Burlington, Ont. – Jade Abreo and Jevontae Layne have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending September 29th, 2024.
Jade Abreo, Soccer, McMaster
Jade Abreo led the McMaster Marauders to dominant 6-0 and 5-1 victories over the Algoma Thunderbirds this past weekend. The third-year midfielder had her hand in nine of the 11 goals scored against Algoma over the two contests.
On Saturday, the Mississauga, Ont. native recorded two goals and two assists to secure the Marauders victory. She stepped up her game in Sunday’s contest, scoring two goals and capturing three assists.
Abreo leads the OUA and U SPORTS in assists (8) and with 15 points scored so far in the 2024 campaign, she ranks first in the OUA and second in U SPORTS.
Jevontae Layne, Soccer, TMU
Jevontae Layne was the standout player in TMU's 3-0 victory over the nationally-ranked No. 3 Carleton Ravens on Saturday. The third-year forward recorded a first half hat-trick, scoring all three of the Bold's goals through his remarkable individual efforts.
His first goal came from a powerful run down the wing, as Layne found just enough space in the box to sneak the ball past the Carleton keeper. His second strike came from a well-placed pass from his teammate Aidan Hugo.
The Brampton, Ont. product concluded his hat-trick carrying the ball nearly the entire length of the pitch before finishing decisively to put TMU up 3-0 before the break.
Layne currently sits tied for seventh in the OUA standings with five goals.
