
Redelaar, Adams named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Juliet Redelaar and Connor Adams have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending September 24, 2023.
Juliet Redelaar, Field Hockey, York Lions
Juliet Redelaar has had a strong start to her OUA career, and in just her second weekend of action with the York Lions, was instrumental in the team’s two wins.
The Whitby, Ont. standout showed off her talent in her team’s victories this weekend, netting three of the four total goals during that stretch. Her offensive efforts came first in what was a back-and-forth game with the No. 4 Guelph Gryphons, wherein Redelaar not only tied up the game for her team, but secured winner in the 2-1 triumph.
Redelaar did not slow down on Sunday, meanwhile, as the first-year forward helped her team against fellow division leaders in the Waterloo Warriors. The biology major put her best foot forward very early against the black and gold, finding the back of the net just 35 seconds into the match for what proved to be the game-winner in a 2-0 win.
Redelaar’s strong start at the varsity level has helped leave York as the lone undefeated team in the conference through two weeks of play.
Connor Adams, Soccer, Queen’s Gaels
From all the way across the country, Richmond, B.C. native Connor Adams proved to be right at home for the Queen’s Gaels on Sunday, playing a pivotal role in his team’s clean sheet win over the TMU Bold.
The third year political science major showcased exceptional talent between the pipes in the Gaels lone game of the weekend, making nine saves in the 3-0 win. While the Gaels’ offence was firing on all cylinders, the talented goalkeeper made sure the same could be said on the defensive side, stepping up time and time again to keep his team ahead, which included a remarkable stop on a penalty kick.
With the win, Adams helped improve Queen’s record to 2-3-2 and gives the Tricolour some momentum as they next prepare to face the Toronto Varsity Blues.
