Lancers to host OUA Final Four after beating Varsity Blues 64-49
Windsor, ON – The No. 1 ranked Lancer women's basketball team defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 64-49 on Saturday night in the OUA quarter-finals at the St. Denis Centre.
Windsor, ON – The No. 1 ranked Lancer women's basketball team defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 64-49 on Saturday night in the OUA quarter-finals at the St. Denis Centre.
With the win, the Lancers will host the OUA Final Four March 6-7th. Windsor will play Lakehead in semi-final #1 on Friday night at 6:00pm, while Ryerson and Queen's will tip-off at 8:00pm in the second semi-final. The gold medal game will be played at 6:00pm on Saturday March 7th.
In a low scoring game, both teams struggled offensively as the Lancers only shot 28.1% in the first half, while the Blues were equally unimpressive at 27.3%. From behind the arch, Windsor only managed two in the first twenty minutes of play while the Blues went 0-5.
Windsor held a 25-20 lead at the half.
The Lancers came out much stronger in the second half en route to their fifteen point victory. In the second half, Windsor shot much better at 41.2% while the Blues continued to have a difficult time at 23.1%. The Lancers also out-rebounded the Blues 53-38 in the contest.
Fifth year guard Korissa Williams finished with a game high 20 points and 9 rebounds, while Caitlyn Longmuir had a solid game off the bench with 15 points. Defensively, sophomore Cheyanne Roger led all players with 14 rebounds.
Toronto was led by fifth year guard Jill Stratton. In her final game for the Blues, the Etobicoke, ON native had a team high 16 points and 6 rebounds. Jasmine Lewin also hit double digits with 11 points.
