Olympians highlight Day 2 at OUA Swimming Championships
TORONTO, Ont. - 2016 Olympians Kylie Masse of the University of Toronto Varsity Blues and Evan Van Moerkerke of the Guelph Gryphons highlighted an action packed Day 2 of the 2017 OUA swimming championships on Friday night (Feb. 10) at Varsity Pool.
Masse kicked off the night by winning her second career 200 individual medley (IM) title in an OUA record time of 2:09.94. The 2016 Olympic bronze medalist from LaSalle, Ont., didn't stop there as she claimed her third 200 backstroke gold medal in as many years, touching the wall in another OUA record of 2:03.71.
After bettering his own 2016 OUA record in preliminaries (48.60), Van Moerkerke earned a major grand slam, winning his fifth career men's 100 freestyle gold medal in a time of 49.11 seconds.
The other OUA record broken on Day 2 came from Toronto's Kyle Haas, Eli Wall, Edward Liu and Scott McGillivray, who won the men's 400 medley relay in a new mark of 3:38.31.
