On Tuesday morning (Dec. 6), Masse qualified for the semifinals with the fastest time after 100 backstroke heats, bettering her own Canadian record (56.55), in a time of 56.02 seconds.
"I saw some people from my high school there and I saw my family earlier, it's really nice to have people watching," Masse said. "I'm really happy with that but it's a first step. I have two more races so I know that I've done that and I just have to see what I can improve the next race."
