Laurier men and women improve to 6-0 through Day 3 at the OUA Curling Championship
GUELPH, ON – The defending champion Laurier Golden Hawks continued their strong play and remain undefeated through three days of play at the 2016 OUA Curling Championships from the Guelph Curling Club. On the Men's side, the Golden Hawks picked up wins over Trent (2-4) and Brock (4-2) to push their record to a perfect 6-0. With a win over Waterloo on Sunday, Laurier would clinch first overall in Pool A and advance to the semi-finals. However, the cross-town rival Warriors from the University of Waterloo are hot on the heels of the Golden Hawks. Waterloo has now won four straight games thanks to victories on Saturday over both Algoma and Carleton. The 5-1 Warriors and 6-0 Golden Hawks will square off at 8:30am on Sunday morning, with first place in Pool A up for grabs.

The men's teams from Lakehead and Brock find themselves currently tied for third in Pool A with 4-2 records. Those two will face off against each other at 8:30am Sunday morning with the winner advancing to the quarter-finals to face the second place team from Pool B.
Pool B is headlined by the Queen's Gaels who, at 6-0, join Laurier as the only other undefeated team remaining on the men's side. Four other teams, McMaster (4-2), Western (4-2), Toronto (3-3), and Guelph (3-3), all have a chance to make it into playoffs.
On the women's side, there is only one undefeated team remaining through three days of competition and it is no surprise that team is wearing purple and gold. The defending champion Golden Hawks are 5-0 thanks to wins over UOIT and McMaster on Saturday. The women's team from Western University boast a 4-1 record and can take over top spot with a win over Laurier on Sunday. The Varsity Blues will be cheering for Laurier to come through as U of T beat Western in round robin play and would finish second in the pool should the Mustangs lose to Laurier.
In Pool A on the women's side, a trio of teams boast 5-1 records in Brock, Queen's and Laurentian. The host Gryphons are close behind at 4-2. Queen's and Brock will face each other Sunday morning, while the Gryphons still control their own destiny. Should the Gryphons win over Ryerson on Sunday, that would set up a tiebreaker with the loser of the Queen's-Brock game. The Gryphons men's team sits at 3-3 after splitting a pair of decisions Saturday versus Western (loss) and Laurentian (win).
Sunday's action gets underway at 8:30am and goes all day, with tiebreakers and quarter-finals scheduled for 7pm.
