Banner Season: Gryphons women, Marauders men dominate podiums to claim team titles
London, Ont. - The 2022 OUA Cross Country Championships saw a pair of dominant performances on the day, as the Guelph Gryphons women and McMaster Marauders men turned their impressive outings into OUA titles.

In the women's race, reigning OUA athlete of the year Sadie-Jane Hickson from Guelph won the individual gold medal with a time of 29:26. That time was six seconds better than her teammate Nina Whitford, who finished in second place. Rosalyn Barret of McMaster rounded out the podium finishers.
The Gryphons defended their 2021 title by finishing with a score of just 21 points in the team standings, occupying five of the top-10 finishes overall. In team standings, McMaster finished second with 69 points, just one ahead of the host Western Mustangs who finished with bronze on the heels of 70 combined points. The Mustangs were led by Sophie Coutts, who came in fifth place for the purple and white.
In the men's race, the McMaster Marauders swept the individual podium with Max Turek taking first place with a final time of 24:36 which was just six seconds off the course record. He was followed by teammate Andrew Davies who finished just five seconds later at 24:41 and Alex Drover wasn't far behind at 24:49 in third place individually.
The Marauders took five of the top 10 positions in the event and had a team total of just 20 points. The second-place finishers on the team side were the Queen's Gaels, whose top finisher was Mitchell Kirby, crossing in fourth at 24:53. The Gaels finished with a score of 51 points to take home the team silver medal, while the 2021 champion Guelph Gryphons rounded out the team podium with a final score of 71. Their top individual finisher was Christian Rachner in ninth with a time of 25:18.
The top seven finishers in each race are named OUA first team all-stars while the eighth through 14th-place finishers are named second team all-stars.
Michelle Gray and Gaetano Pocchi of the Guelph Gryphons, meanwhile, were named OUA rookies of the year.
