Banner Season: Gryphons group together for team title sweep at cross country championships
London, Ont. - After a strong start to the season, many teams entered the OUA Cross Country Championship this past weekend ranked high nationally, with several teams in the U SPORTS Top 10. The Championship was hosted by the Western Mustangs and held at the Thames Valley Golf Club on Saturday, November 6, 2021.
This championship marks the 43rd year for the women, dating back to 1978. And it is the 106th championship for the men, which began in 1912.
The No. 1 nationally ranked Guelph Gryphons Women's Team reclaimed the women's banner, finishing strong to take gold on the women's side, with a score of 19 points, winning their OUA-record 18th conference title in program history. The #2 nationally ranked Western Mustangs finished in second with 60 points, and the No. 5 nationally ranked McMaster Marauders earned the bronze medal with 73 points.
The No. 2 nationally ranked Gryphons Men's team continued their school's domination, finishing the day with 32 points to win their 14th banner in the last 16 years.
