ST. CATHARINES, Ont. (September 19, 2015) – Thanks to a late try, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s rugby team remained undefeated in 2015 as they knocked off the Brock Badgers 22-17 on Saturday afternoon.

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. (September 19, 2015) – Thanks to a late try, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's rugby team remained undefeated in 2015 as they knocked off the Brock Badgers 22-17 on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks were led on the afternoon by fifth year Kelly Martin of Breslau, Ont., who scored a pair of tries to lead the offensive effort. Chloe Graves of Kitchener, Ont., and Tamika Marks-Grant of Guelph, Ont., chipped in with singles tries for the purple and gold.
Jennifer Gilmour of Waterloo, Ont., added a pair of conversions to help Laurier move to 2-0 on the season.
As for the Badgers, they drop to 0-2 on the season.
After two straight wins to open the year on the road, Laurier will now return home to University Stadium for their final three games of the regular season. Up first will be the No. 5 Guelph Gryphons on Homecoming weekend. Game time is set for 1 p.m. on Friday, September 25.

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. (September 19, 2015) - The No.2 Queen's (2-0) women's rugby team had no trouble getting past the Trent Excalibur (0-2) on Saturday in Peterborough taking a dominant 54-0 shutout win.
Lauren Cranfield (Pickering, Ont.) wasted no time getting the Gaels out in front for their 11am match at Trent as she found the try zone in the first minute of the match. Erin Geddes (Lindsay, Ont.) got the conversion, her first of many on the day, to make it 7-0 Gaels. From there Queen's started to open up a wide margin, first it was Emma Chown (Barrie, Ont.) with her first try of the day which was converted by Geddes, then Miranda Seifert (Regina) added a try and Queen's was up 19-0 only nine minutes in.
From there the Gaels added another Chown try and a penalty kick and conversion from Geddes and sat comfortably with a 29-0 lead at half.
Hannah Greenwood (Kingston, Ont.), Katie Garland (Peterborough, Ont.), Leigha Stiles (Pembroke, Ont.) and Hannah Bradshaw (Napanee, Ont.) all scored trys in the second half en route to a 54-0 final.

Gryphons Win 88-0 Over Western
Guelph, ON – The Guelph Gryphons Women's Rugby team coasted to an 88-0 shutout over the Western Mustangs Saturday in Guelph. Guelph is now 2-0 on the season, while Western, who finished third in the CIS last season, stands at 1-1.
Fifth-year eighth man Daria Keane (Sarnia, ON) paced the Gryphons with four tries, while third-year fullback Alexandra King (Ottawa, ON) racked up 28 points, hitting nine of 14 conversion attempts, including several from sharp angles, with plenty of wind and rain to deal with. Contributions came throughout the lineup, including third-year wing Emily Samek (Hamilton, ON), who had a great game, making sharp cuts and bowling over the opposition.
The Gryphons will next be in action next Friday, Sept. 25 when they travel to Waterloo to face the Laurier Golden Hawks.

Tough night for Varsity Blues in loss to York
The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's rugby team fell 80-0 to the York Lions Saturday (Sept. 19) night at Varsity Centre.
The Lions pressured U of T early and often but the Varsity Blues stood tall protecting their goal line for the first 10 minutes of the contest. However, at the 14 minute mark the Lions broke through and proceeded to control the remainder of the game.
First-year standout Jordyn Orlando (Burlington, Ont.) once again delivered a solid performance dealing out crowd pleasing hits along with several strong runs.
Veteran Olivia Roberge (Ajax, Ont.) also showcased her skill carrying defenders on quick runs inside while directing her team in the demanding effort.
The Varsity Blues will have a week to regroup before traveling to Kingston, Ontario on Saturday, September 26 to faceoff with the Queen's Gaels at 7 p.m.

Nine Marauders Score Tries, McMaster Smashes Waterloo 63-0
Nine different Marauders had tries on Saturday, as McMaster rebounded from a heartbreaking season opener with a 63-0 thumping of the Warriors in Waterloo.
Colleen Irowa and Cindy Nelles both crossed the line twice, while Katie Svoboda, Emily Ricketts, Britni French, Rina Charalampis, Mackenzie Wiens, Saffara Whiteley-Hoffelner and Madi Jenkins each had a solo try to their names. Veteran fly half Steph Black scored eight points on four converts.
The 63 points marked McMaster's widest margin of victory since October 4 of last year, when the Marauders beat the Toronto Varsity Blues 64-0.
After two road games to begin their season, the Marauders return to the friendly confines of Back 10 Field as part of Homecoming weekend, where they play the Trent Excalibur on Sunday, September 27.
