The Queen's Rowing team had a fantastic start to their season at Head of the Rideau Regatta in Ottawa this past Sunday.
The competition was fierce on the tough 5.2 km course, but the Gaels were able to pull together, to bring back home the Kandahar overall team point's trophy for a second consecutive year.
On the women's team the Gaels won: The varsity 8+, and the varsity lightweight 8 +. The lightweight 8+ also placed second overall in the varsity 8+ division.
The Women were consistent with these results in the coxed 4's, with a win in the Varsity 4+ and Varsity lightweight 4, with the lightweights placing second overall in the varsity 4+ division. Larkin Davenport Huyer won the varsity 1x for a second consecutive year.
On the men's team the Gaels won: The Varsity lightweight men's coxed 4+, and the Junior Varsity men's 2x. The men also had strong performances in the other events with multiple second and third place finishes.
The annual Queen's-McGill boat race also took place on the Rideau course, with the Women's Varsity 8+ reclaiming the trophy. The Queens Varsity men's 8+ had a great performance against the McGill Varsity men's 8+ who respectfully won the men's trophy after a close race. The overall Queen's-McGill trophy winner will be determined next Saturday after the Gaels varsity, and novice teams compete at Head of the Trent.
