Jarrett opens 2017 with bronze at Brock Invitational
Third-year University of Toronto Varsity Blues wrestler Brooke Jarrett picked up a bronze medal at the Brock Invitational this past weekend (Jan. 14) in preparation for both the provincial and national championships this season.
Jarrett found herself in unfamiliar territory in St. Catharines, Ontario as she competed in the 72 kg event, as opposed to the York Invitational earlier this season where she claimed gold in the 67 kg category or the 63 kg class where she earned a national silver and provincial bronze a season ago.
The mental health studies and neuroscience major will have two more opportunities to fine-tune her performance for the OUA and U Sports stage as the Varsity Blues are next scheduled to compete at the Guelph Invitational this Saturday, January 21 followed by the Western Invitational on Saturday, January 28.

El-Nahas wins bronze at Brock Open
York University Lions wrestler Mohab El-Nahas won the bronze medal in the men's 90kg weight class at the Brock Open in St. Catharines, Ont., on Saturday.
El-Nahas (Mississauga, Ont.) defeated former U SPORTS bronze medallist Clayton Pye from the Brock Badgers in the bronze-medal match to put himself on the podium. The victory also avenged an earlier loss to Pye in their first match of the tournament.
The second-year wrestler was one of five Lions at the meet. On the men's side, Jasman Gill (Brampton, Ont.) and Tyler Tate-Austin (Brampton, Ont.) both just missed out on a medal with fourth-place finishes in the 72kg and 130kg divisions.
In the women's event, Maddy Delle Donne (Mississauga, Ont.) won the silver medal in a field of three wrestlers in the 82kg weight class, and Gurleen Tak (Brampton, Ont.) was sixth in the 48kg division.
The Lions will have another small contingent at the Guelph Open next Saturday (Jan. 21) before the full team comes together to compete at the Western Open in London, Ont., on Saturday, Jan. 28 ahead of the OUA championships in mid February.
