WATERLOO, Ont. - The Windsor Lancers were hosted by the Warriors Wednesday evening on a cold night at Warrior Field. Windsor scored early in the 4th minute and got three more tallies en route to the 4-0 victory.
The Warriors opened the game generating the first chance of the match. Adam Sils (Oakville) sailed a shot just over the outreached arms of Alex Borsos but the ball went just over the crossbar. Immediately after the goal kick, Windsor's midfield sent a teasing ball through to Mike Pio who slotted home his first of the game.
Yusuf Khaled (Burlington) had a strong game for the Warriors and looked poised to generate a solid scoring opportunity but he was hauled down at centre field by Pio. Windsor was given a yellow card for his actions.
After solid ball movement from the Lancers, they had thought they scored their second of the game but the offside flag was raised and the score remained 1-0. Just three minutes later, striker Jumbo Iyowuna would corral a flying ball and score his first of the match to push the lead to 2-0.
Anthony Spanopulos (Waterloo) would make a number of great saves in the game, one of which came in the dying minutes of the first half to keep the game within reach. Both squads would head to half time with Windsor leading 2-0.
The physical nature of the match would continue in the second half which worked in Windsor's favour. The Lancers controlled possession much of the half and got a second goal from both Iwoyuna and Pio to close the match out 4-0.
The Warriors have only one day off as they will travel to play Laurier on Friday at 6pm at University Stadium and will try to fight to get into the playoffs.
