Banner Season: Gee-Gees early leaders at OUA golf regional qualifier in Oshawa
Oshawa, Ont. (via Ontario Tech Ridgebacks) - After the opening day of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) golf regional qualifier at Oshawa Golf and Curling Club, the Ottawa Gee-Gees lead the way with the low score of 295. Ottawa was led to the top spot by Nick Workun, Jared Coyle and Spencer Grainger all finishing tied for second individually with rounds of 72.

The top four teams advance to the OUA championship at Cherry Downs, as well as the top five individuals not on the teams that qualify.
Heading into Tuesday morning, the team standings behind the first place Gee-Gees (295) are the Queen's Gaels with a team total of 302, Carleton Ravens at 303 and the Varsity Blues in fourth with a 312.
Stefan Nicoara of the York Lions was the top individual of the day with a one-under 71. His score helped keep the Lions within striking distance for fourth place in the team standings, six strokes back of the Toronto Varsity Blues. Nick Pacione of the Queen's Gaels shot a one-over 73 to round out the top five individuals scores of the day.
While York is within striking distance for a team qualification spot in the OUA championship, rounding out the team standings were the host Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in sixth (331), Trent Excalibur in seventh (348) and Ryerson Rams (349).
Day two action gets underway in Oshawa at 8 a.m., with the leaders teeing off in the final group at 9:30 a.m.
