
Davies, Licis, Mollin, Okpali named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Max Davies, Zig Licis, Nina Mollin, and Favour Okpali have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending March 9, 2025.
Max Davies, Guelph Gryphons, Track & Field
Davies successfully defended all three gold medals at the 2025 BioSteel U SPORTS Track and Field Championship, winning the men's U SPORTS Athlete of the Meet for a second straight year.
The Toronto, Ont. native posted a time of 2:20.22 in the men's 1000m and broke his own U SPORTS record as he defended his title. The fourth-year management student was also successful in defending his title in the men's 1500m, adding to his impressive medal count.
Running as the anchor leg, Davies won gold as part of the Gryphons’ men's 4x800m relay team. His efforts contributed to a team silver medal for the Guelph Gryphons.
Zig Licis, Queen’s Gaels, Volleyball
Licis an OUA first team all-star, delivered another dominant performance at the OUA men's volleyball championship. He led the Queen’s Gaels past the No. 1-ranked Windsor Lancers to capture the Forsyth Cup with a 3-1 victory on Friday night.
Licis mirrored last week’s semifinal performance against the Western Mustangs, this time recording a game-high 22 kills for a total of 26.5 points. He added three service aces and nine digs in his championship outing.
Nina Mollin, Toronto Varsity Blues, Swimming
Hosting the best in the country inside U of T's Varsity Pool for the 2025 U SPORTS Swimming National Championships this past weekend, medley and butterfly specialist Mollin delivered in front of the home crowd capturing three individual national gold medals.
The 2025 OUA women's swimmer of the year defended each one of her event gold medals from the national championships a year ago, touching the wall in first place in the 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly, and 200m individual medley.
Adding a bronze with her teammates in the 4x100m medley relay on the final day of the championships, her four medals earned in 2025 lift her career U SPORTS medal tally to 12 in three years.
Favour Okpali, Western Mustangs, Track & Field
Okpali built on her impressive performance two weeks ago at the OUA track and field championship taking home three more medals at the 2025 BioSteel U SPORTS Track and Field Championship. The fifth-year engineering student from Toronto, Ont. captured a medal of every colour racing amongst the best in the country.
She won the gold medal in the 600m with a time of 1:27.71 and the silver medal in the 300m with a time of 37.78. Okpali secured a bronze medal for Western with her teammates, running the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay. Her efforts helped the Mustangs take home the women’s team gold medal.
Adding to her already monumental accolades this season Okpali was named the U SPORTS Outstanding Track Athlete of the Season for her statement year with the Mustangs.
