OUA BY THE NUMBERS
HAMILTON, Ont. – A weekly look at stats and figures from around Ontario University Athletics (OUA).
20 – The number of consecutive wins by the McMaster Marauders football team. The Marauders downed the Guelph Gryphons 30-13 to win the 105th Yates Cup on Saturday to earn their 20th win in a row. The Yates Cup win set the CIS record for most consecutive victories. The Marauders now advance to host the Calgary Dinos in the Mitchell Bowl on November 17 at 4 p.m.
33 – The number of kills collected by Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball player Charlotte Sider (Ottawa) in two games over the weekend. The third-year right side hitter started the weekend with a 13-kill performance in a loss to York. She then helped her team rebound by posting a career-high 20 kills in a 3-1 win over McMaster the following day. In addition to her 33 kills, Sider also collected 33 digs in Toronto’s two weekend matches.
14 – The number of points scored by Queen’s men’s rugby fly half Liam Underwood (Toronto), in lifting the Gaels to a 29-18 win in the OUA men’s rugby championship. Underwood earned Man of the Match honours after kicking three converts and one penalty goal, plus adding a try in the Queen’s victory. For his efforts, Underwood was named Pioneer Energy OUA Male athlete of the Week.
7 – The number of points collected by Windsor women’s hockey player Courtney Spoors (Kingsville, Ont.) in a single game over the weekend. The third-year forward collected four goals and three assists as the Lancers exploded offensively to beat the Brock Badgers 12-2.
30 – The number of points scored by Laurier guard Max Allin in the Golden Hawks lone game of the opening weekend of OUA basketball. Despite falling 83-80 to the Queen’s Gaels, Allin’s performance was the highest individual scoring effort for the opening weekend of the men’s season. The six-foot-four senior also collected a game-high18 rebounds.
17:23 – The time posted by Guelph Gryphon Andrea Seccafien (Guelph, Ont.) to take the women’s individual gold medal at the CIS cross country championships held in London, Ont. Seccafien finished seven seconds ahead of her teammate Carise Thompson (Lynden, Ont.) and earned both the CIS and Pioneer Energy OUA female athlete of the week awards for her efforts. Based on the strength of the performance by Seccafien, Thompson and the rest of the Gryphons squad, they were able to capture their eighth consecutive CIS title.
26 – The number of kills posted by Ryerson volleyball player Robert Wojcik (Whitby, Ont.) in the Rams 3-1 win over the York Lions on Sunday. That total represents the most kills in a single game by any OUA player this season. Wojcik started the weekend with an eight-kill performance Saturday before his season-best outing on Sunday. He now sits in second in the OUA averaging 4.0 kills per game.
21 – The number of saves made, on 22 shots, by Queen’s goalkeeper Madison Tyrell (White Rock, B.C.) during the CIS women’s soccer championship in Victoria, B.C. The rookie keeper collected a shutout in the Gaels opening round game and then again in the gold medal match. Queen’s earned a silver medal after falling in penalty kicks in the final.
