Ridgebacks in tough on opening weekend
KINGSTON, Ont. – The UOIT women's field lacrosse team knew they would be in tough this weekend as they went up against three of the top teams in the OUA.
Despite a good effort, the Ridgebacks dropped all three OUA conference games and are 1-3 overall heading in to a pair of games at home next weekend.
The Ridgebacks will host five OUA games on Sunday, Sept. 18 at the Oshawa Civic. UOIT will play in two of those games as they take on the Trent Excalibur at 8:30 a.m. followed by the Toronto Varsity Blues at 1:45 p.m.
On Saturday, UOIT fell 17-2 to the Laurier Golden Hawks. Elyse Lockhart and Kristin Lemmon were the goal scorers for UOIT.
The Ridgebacks offence failed to generate many scoring opportunities on Sunday morning against Guelph as the Gryphons cruised to a 12-1 win. Lockhart scored the lone goal for UOIT with six minutes left in the first half.
In their final game of the weekend, UOIT was playing with more confidence that showed on the scoreboard as they trailed the defending silver medalists Brock Badgers 6-3 at the half. However, the Badgers would finish strong and end up winning 14-4.
Lockhart had two goals in the match while Lemmon and Mallory Gallant had singles.
