Western and Trent set to collide on Sunday
The five-time defending champions from Western will have their chance to make it six Sunday, as they dominated the Laurier Golden Hawks en route to a 14-5 semi-final victory in the day's final game. Meanwhile, the Trent Excalibur continued their spotless campaign with a 13-9 win over the Brock Badgers that put them on a gold-medal collision course with the Mustangs.
A five-goal game from Katy De Snoo paced the Mustangs in the win, with four of her goals coming in a first-half explosion that saw Western take a 9-2 lead.
Much like her Western counterpart in the 23 jersey, Trent's Leah Michel was the offensive catalyst for the Excalibur Saturday. She posted five of her team's 13 goals, while Allie Ogilvie added a pair.
Guelph upsets Toronto to advance to fifth-place game
It was the Gryphons rebound from a lopsided defeat to Trent that stunned the field Saturday, as Guelph took down the East's third-seeded Toronto Varsity Blues 8-6 to advance to the fifth-place game.
The Gryphons prevailed with a balanced offence, with five different scorers finding the back of the net in the win. Taylor Kidd and Kristine Webber each scored a pair, as Guelph built upon a slender 5-4 halftime lead to carve out a win against the higher seeded Blues.
Elsewhere, Queen's pounded the host Marauders 14-2 to book their spot alongside Guelph, while UOIT ended their tournament on a winning note by edging the York Lions 7-6 in the first game of the day.
