TOP-RANKED RAVENS TO MEET OUA WEST POWERS
During this streak (2002-present), 34 different players have suited up for head coach Dave Smart, with fourth-year guard Osvaldo Jeanty (pictured) of Ottawa being the lone remaining member of the 2002-03 Ravens. Jeanty's record in OUA/CIS regular and post-season play is an unprecedented 91-1.
While the Carleton men hold the CIS basketball record for consecutive wins in the regular season and the playoffs, the CIS mark for consecutive OVERALL victories (exhibition, non-conference, regular season, playoffs) belongs to the University of Winnipeg Wesmen women's squad.
The Lady Wesmen racked up 88 straight overall wins between 1992 and 1994, capturing back-to-back national banners in the process (1993, 1994). Their win streak was broken on December 2, 1994 when they suffered a 64-62 home loss to cross-town rivals, the University of Manitoba Bisons.
The last Carleton loss in the regular season or the playoffs came in conference play on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at Sudbury, Ont. when the Virgil Hill coached Laurentian Voyageurs defeated the Ravens, 88-81. At the time, the loss left Carleton with a 5-1 record in the OUA East, one game ahead of 4-2 York and Ottawa.
The Ravens then started their current success streak the following weekend on Friday, November 29, 2002 with a 93-54 victory over the Ryerson Rams, at the Ravens' Nest. Carleton has not lost an OUA or CIS regular or post-season game since. The Ravens streak includes three OUA & CIS titles (2003, 2004, 2005).
The previous CIS men's basketball record of 46 consecutive regular-season and playoff wins was set by the University of Victoria Vikes between 1981 and 1985 (CWUAA/CIS). In the 1980s, regular season schedules consisted of 10 to 12 games. The Vikes streak included four straight CIS crowns.
Carleton's home streak is currently at 54 straight wins in regular and post-season play, making Victoria's streak the third longest in CIS men's basketball history.
CIS men's basketball regular and post-season win streaks:
