Windsor, Ont. - The Waterloo Warriors men's golf team and Toronto Varsity Blues women's golf team successfully defended their OUA Championship banners on Tuesday afternoon as competition wrapped up at the Ambassador Golf Club.
The Varsity Blues became the first team since in 2005 to win five consecutive OUA banners, while the Warriors captured their third straight title, a first on the men's side of competition since Toronto accomplished that same feat over fifty years ago in 1963.
The Blues dominated the second day of competition posting a second round total of 230 in windy and humid conditions to finish the two-day tournament with a total of 29-over par, 23-strokes ahead the second place Waterloo Warriors, who finished the tournament with a plus 52. The Warrior women narrowly edged the Western Mustangs for the silver medal; the Mustangs captured the overall bronze medal with a two-day total of 55-over par 481.
Toronto's Ana Peric led the way for the Blues capturing the women's individual gold medal with a seven-over par 149. Peric's teammates Laura Upenieks, last year's individual champion, and Sarah Kim tied for third with an overall 14-over 156 to bring home the individual bronze medal.Nick
Rounding out the individual medals was Robyn Cambell of Queen's who brought home the silver with an 11-over 153.
On the men's side, the Warriors trailed by six strokes entering the day and pushed hard for their title thanks to an overall team effort, including two all-star performances from David French and Jake Adams.
French placed second overall in the individual standings with a two-day total two-under 140, while Adams finished the tournament with a one-under 141.
The men's individual golf title went to Laurier's Austin Ryan who shot his second straight two-under par to claim the trophy with a 138. Nick Quesnel of Laurentian also shot two-under par to tie French and also claim individual silver.
As for the host Windsor Lancers, the women's team finished fifth overall for their best finish ever at an OUA championship. The Blue & Gold closed out the two-day event with a plus-71, 497. For the men, the Lancers placed eighth overall with a two-day score of 592 (+24).
