Waterloo men, Toronto women leading after opening round at OUA golf championship

The three-time defending women's champion Toronto Varsity Blues have a seven stroke lead on the Waterloo Warriors after the opening round as their foursome combined for a 25-over 241.
Waterloo shot a 32-over 248 to head into the final round in second place, while Queen's rounds out the top three, 20 strokes back of the Varsity Blues.
Toronto's Sarah Dunning, who won the individual competition last season, is in 10th to start the tournament in Oshawa after posting a 13-over 85. Her teammates lead the field as Ana Peric is atop the leaderboard at four-over par, while Laura Upenieks is in four strokes back in second.
Waterloo's Laura Luna is in third at 10-over, with four golfers tied for fourth at 11-over par.
On the men's side the Waterloo Warriors, who dethroned the two-time defending champion Western Mustangs last year in Oshawa, are the leaders after Monday play.
Waterloo shot a 10-over 298, seven strokes better than the Mustangs who sit in second. Queen's is 18-over in third after shooting a 306.
The host UOIT Ridgebacks are in ninth at 29-over par.
Waterloo's Gajan Sivabalasingham, last year's individual champion, has some competition for round two if he wants to win the title in back-to-back seasons. Jordan Gregoris of the Queen's Gaels, Corey Raymond of the Ottawa Gee-Gees and Sivabalasingham all shot an even-par 72 in the opening round.
There are 19 golfers behind the leaders within five strokes, but Jake Adams of the Warriors is in the optimal spot to make a move, just one stroke back at one-over. Brock Badger Stephen Wingfield is fourth at two-over par, just ahead of a four-way tie for sixth at three-over, which includes a pair of golfers from the host UOIT team.
Round two of the championship is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. at Oshawa Golf and Curling Club on Tuesday.
