Fore Straight: Warriors, Adams repeat at Guelph Invitational
The Waterloo men's golf team cannot be stopped after yet another team gold medal, their fourth straight, this time at the Guelph Invitational played at the Cutten Fields Golf Club. The Warriors successfully defended their title from a year ago.
On top of their staggering streak, the Warriors had their fourth individual to capture gold with Jake Adams (London) taking the spotlight this time, firing a 1-under, 69 to share the top spot with Austin Ryan of Laurier. Adams successfully defended his title after capturing the Guelph Invitational last season with an identical score of 69.
The Warriors have now medaled in all seven events played in this year which includes four gold, two silver and one bronze.
The Warriors had other strong rounds by David French (Camlachie) and David Bartlett, who both shot 1-over 71's while Dan Wilson fired a 73 and Dylan Cave (Kitchener) a 74.
Waterloo (team total of 284) beat out the host Guelph Gryphons (293) by nine strokes. Western and Laurier tied for the bronze medal position with scores of 294.
The Warriors will have one more tournament on Tuesday, October 13 before their focus turns to the OUA Championships in Oshawa one week later.

Laurier golf shines at Gryphon Invitational
GUELPH, Ont. (October 6, 2015) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks golf teams had a day to remember at Monday's Gryphon Invitational, hosted at Cutten Fields.
For the first time in program history, the Hawks swept the individual gold medals in both the men's event and the women's event. For the men, Austin Ryan of Owen Sound, Ont., took home gold thanks to a round of one-under par 69, marking the second consecutive round he's shot under par for the purple and gold. That score tied him with Jake Adams of the Waterloo Warriors for top spot in the event.
Joining him atop the podium in the women's event was Skylar Turkiewicz of Brantford, Ont. The third year business major posted the best round of her career at Laurier as she fired a seven-over par 77 to win gold by two strokes.
Ryan and Turkiewicz weren't the only Golden Hawks to post good results on Monday as Eric Flockhart of Mississauga, Ont., finished in a six-way tie for third place after a round of one-over par 71 in the men's event while Jamie Wood of Toronto, finished tied for eighth after she shot 15-over par 85.
With these strong individual scores behind them, Laurier's women's team captured a team silver medal, marking their best team result since they were formed in 2013, while the men's team won a team bronze medal, their third team medal of the season.
The Hawks will return to action next Tuesday, October 13, when they play their final event before the OUA Championships, the McMaster Invitational at Dundas Valley Golf and Curling Club.

Gryphons earn 2nd place finish at Gryphon Invitational
Guelph, ON - "Trending in the right direction." That was the phrase used by Brandon McLeod, the first year Head Golf Coach at the University of Guelph, regarding his team's overall performance so far in 2015. On Monday (October 5) at their home course of Cutten Fields, the Gryphons Men's Golf team finished 2nd out of 10 schools in the overall team standings at the one-day Gryphon Invitational tournament. With that result, the Gryphons Men's team has now reached the podium at each of their three events this season following third place finishes at both the Western and Toronto Invitationals in September.
In total, 12 Gryphon golfers teed it up on Monday at Cutten Fields (10 Men, 2 Women). Despite overcast skies and a light drizzle early in the morning, conditions at tee time were nearly perfect for this time of the year as temperatures hovered around 17 degrees with almost no wind to speak of. The Men's format for Monday's competition was as follows: each team is asked to select 5 golfers whose score will be added together (with the highest score of those 5 golfers being thrown out, and only the top 4 being tallied). The 5 Gryphons Men's golfers selected on Monday were Josh Polisuk, Scott Banks, Jacob Lehman, Marc-Anthony Manion and Nick Striker. Of that group, Polisuk led the way with a 72 followed closed behind by 2014 OUA All-Star Scott Banks with a 73. Lehman and Manion both fired 74's while Striker finished with a 78. The Gryphons team score of 293 was a stroke better than Laurier and Western, giving the Gryphons a 2nd place finish in the team standings.
Jack Shoreman, a rookie on the Gryphon Golf team, fired an impressive 72 to join Polisuk in the Top 10 of the overall individual scoring leaders. Fellow rookie Patrick Alves was coming off an impressive performance at the UW/WLU Invitational. In gael force winds Saturday at Rebel Creek, Alves shot a spectacular round of 70 - leading the field. On Monday, Alves showed some nice form once again as he finished with a 73. Third year Guelph native David Fell was also coming off an impressive weekend after shooting a blistering 65 at Grey Silo on Sunday. On Monday at Cutten, Fell posted a 77 while teammates Trevor Whiton (74), Nick Striker (78) and Nick Freeman (79) rounded out the scoring for the Gryphons.
On the Women's side, the Gryphons technically did not qualify for the overall team score (as a mimimum of 3 players are required to post scores) - but individually, both Madeline Decorso and Breanna Shannon posted their best scores of the year with an 89 and 92 respectively.
Up next for the Gryphons Golf teams, a trip to Dundas for the McMaster Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

We could not have asked for better weather heading into Monday's Tournament at Guelph. No wind, and an outstanding golf course for the Lancers to kick things into high gear and post the best tournament finish for both the Men's & Women's teams. Solid play by all players allowed us to post some of our best scores of the season as we ramp up for the OUA Championships in a few weeks.
Quote from Coach Wagner….."This tournament was sort of the coming out party for the Lancer Golf teams and showed the other schools just how strong we are. Our goal as coaches is to get our players to peak and be at their best for the OUA Championships in a few weeks. This tournament was the perfect opportunity for both of our teams to come together. The support these two teams have for each other is incredible."
The Men's team officially finished in a 5th position and the Women's Team finished in the Bronze medal position two shots out of 2nd place.
Note: Darren Whitehouse finished his round with a score of 73. Unfortunately Darren mistakenly signed an incorrect scorecard and was disqualified for this mistake. Had Darren signed the correct score on his scorecard we would have finished in 2nd place position.
Michael Britton was T-3 shooting a 71
Emily Stadder & Kelly Riccardi were both T-6 each shooting an 83.
Lexi Lawrence was T-10 shooting an 89.
Both the Lancers Men's & Women's Teams hit the road next week for the McMaster Invitational, the final preparation for the OUA Championships.
