OUA ANNOUNCES 2008 FENCING ALL-STARS
HAMILTON, Ont. - The Royal Military College successfully defended their OUA Men's Fencing Championship on Saturday. The host team won the OUA banner by a margin of 45 points over the University of Toronto.
RMC had a solid start to their day, earning two medals in individual competition. Michael Dubois-Boudazza won bronze in men's foil, while Brendan Kilburn won gold in men's épée. Kilburn had won bronze in this event the previous two years.
On the women's side The University of Toronto won the OUA Women's Fencing Championship on Sunday, hosted at the Royal Military College of Canada. They narrowly edged Carleton University for the overall title, by a margin of only 8 points. In the process, U of T also snapped RMC's string of three consecutive OUA championships.
Catherine Migliore from U of T (gold in individual sabre) was named recipient of the Dave O'Donnell trophy, awarded to the female fencer most proficient in skill, style and sportswomanship. The Varsity Blues also won silver medals in each of the following events: individual foil (Claire Midgley), individual épée (Hilary Peden), team foil and team épée.
