RMC DEFENDS OUA MEN'S FENCING CHAMPIONSHIP
KINGSTON, Ont. - The Royal Military College successfully defended their OUA Men's Fencing Championship on Saturday. The host team won the OUA banner by a margin of 45 points over the University of Toronto.
RMC had a solid start to their day, earning two medals in individual competition. Michael Dubois-Boudazza won bronze in men's foil, while Brendan Kilburn won gold in men's épée. Kilburn had won bronze in this event the previous two years.
In the team events, RMC won gold (sabre), silver (foil) and bronze (épée) medals to wrap up the overall championship.
The University of Toronto, led by Hans Wolfgramm (individual gold in foil), were able to improve on their third place finish from 2006-07. The Varsity Blues also earned gold (foil) and silver (épée) in the team events.
Ben Riley from Carleton (gold in individual sabre) was named recipient of the George Tully trophy, awarded to the male fencer most proficient in skill, style and sportsmanship. Also contributing to the Ravens third place overall finish were Scott McNeil (individual silver in foil) and Graham Pressey (individual silver in épée), along with the Carleton sabre team (silver) and foil team (bronze).
The women's events are scheduled for Sunday at RMC. The Paladins are the three-time defending OUA champions.
