TEAMS PREPARE FOR OUA FENCING CHAMPIONSHIPS AT WEEKEND QUALIFIER
OTTAWA, Ont. -The Carleton University Ravens qualified in all six disciplines for the 2008 OUA Championships, to be held in Kingston, Ontario, by the Royal Military College, the weekend of February 16 and 17, 2008.
The Ravens will send teams in Men's Epee (3rd Place Regional finish), Sabre (1st Place Regional finish) and Foil (2nd Place Regional finish). The Women also had a great regional weekend earning provincial berths in Sabre (1st Place overall), Epee (3rd Place overall) and Foil (1st Place finish). Carleton will have a great opportunity to win the 2008 OUA overall Championships by having all six of their teams competing in Kingston, in two weeks.
The Ravens were led by Elizaveta Samokhina who captured the overall Number One ranking in Women's Foil and Anna Laurence, finished 2nd overall in Foil. Katrina Ross, finished 4th and Victoria Peters 5th in Sabre to also qualify for the individual events at the OUA Championships and Mozynah and Rachel Gardner were First and Second respectfully in the Women's Epee giving Carleton six athletes in the Top Four of their respectfully disciplines.
On the Men's side the Raven Sabre "Machine" continues as defending OUA Sabre Champion Ben Riley ranked Number One after Regionals, joining Riley is Jonathan Girard in the Sabre Top Four. Graham Pressey finished 2nd overall to be the lone Raven individual in the Epee event at Provincials and Scott McNeill and Konstantine finished 2nd and 7th to qualify for the Individual event in Foil at the OUA Championships.
In all the Ravens will send 6 teams and 11 individuals to the 2008 OUA Championships in Kingston, next month. Below are the final 2008 OUA Regional Qualifier Results for the OUA Championships:
