Banner Season: Western women capture back-to-back titles and Queen’s men take home gold medal
North Bay, Ont. (via Nipissing Lakers) - Despite some wind and cool weather, the 2024 OUA Cross Country Championship went off without a hitch Saturday at Osprey Links Golf Course in Callander, ON.
For the first time, the Nipissing Lakers hosted the event and 200 athletes hit the course, turning in some impressive times as 16 schools, along with the host Lakers participated.
Jude Wheeler-Dee posted an impressive time, winning goal in 24:32.9, with Max Davies grabbing silver and his teammate Jack Lehto rounding out the top three. For the men, who hit the course first, the Queen's Gaels took home the gold medal, the Guelph Gryphons earned a silver medal and the McMaster Marauders grabbed bronze, in third place.
Madeyn Eybergen of Windsor ran away with the gold for the women, staying ahead of both Ashley Maguire and Olivia Roussel, both of Western, who claimed silver and bronze, respectively. On the women's side, overall, it was the Western Mustangs taking home the gold medal, followed by the Queen's Gaels in the silver position and the McMaster Marauders rounding out the top three, with bronze.
