Banner Season: Brock men add to rowing resumé, while Queen's conquers women's field
St. Catharines, Ont. (via Ontario Tech Ridgebacks) – Rowers from all over the province descended upon Henley Island for the 2023 OUA Rowing Championships this weekend.
Brock would take home the banner for men's rowing after an outstanding day on the water, marking their third straight OUA Rowing Championship while winning five medals for a total of a 524 points on the day. Brock rower Christian Etienne-Tibet was also honoured with the OUA Men's Rower of the Year award after netting two gold medals in men's lightweight single and men's lightweight double. Finally, Brock coaches Tom Kent and Scott Anderson brought home the OUA Men's Coaches of the Year to round out Brocks award haul.
On the women's side of the table, it came down to the wire between Queen's and Western, but Queen's would find themselves in the top spot, and raising the banner, with 496 points at the end of the day. Queen's captured four gold medals in Lightweight Women's 1X, Women's 1X, Women's 2-, Women's 4+ and Lightweight Women's 8X. Queen's coaches Katie Bruggeling, Rami Maassarani, Scott Feddery and Kathleen Rankin were named OUA's Women's Coaches of the Year.
