Special Teams Player of the Week – Joe O’Brien, McMaster Marauders
After a dominant second quarter for the McMaster Marauders saw them take a nine-point lead late into the frame, a dynamic special teams play set the team up for a little additional success before the break.
While it seemed all but certain that the first half would wrap up with a 19-10 score, McMaster’s Joe O’Brien came up with one of the game’s most important plays and by far the most emphatic special teams effort of the championship.
With Western set to punt the ball downfield and all but wind down the clock, O’Brien got his hands on the Marc Liegghio kick. The impressive block, which was recovered by the Marauders, got his team right into scoring position with just seconds left on the clock and set up an Adam Preocanin field goal on the final play of the half, adding another blow to the Mustangs’ three-peat hopes.
