Hall and G. Onyeka named OUA Football Players of the Week

BURLINGTON, Ont. - The following athletes have been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Football Players of the Week for the period ending November 21, 2016.
OFFENCE: Brentyn Hall (Toronto, Ont.) – 1st yr. – Laurier
Laurier Golden Hawks receiver Brentyn Hall (Toronto, Ont.) has been named OUA Offensive Player of the Week following a strong performance in the U Sports Uteck Bowl on Saturday.
Hall, a second-year business major, had five receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown in Laurier’s 36-6 loss to the No. 1 ranked Laval Rouge et Or.
With time winding down, Hall hauled in a 26 yard pass from Laurier quarterback Michael Knevel to spoil Laval’s shutout bid.
In his rookie season, the 6’2”, 210 lbs receiver appeared in all eight regular season games for the Golden Hawks and led the conference averaging 23.3 yards per catch. He also finished inside the top 10 with 558 receiving yards.
DEFENCE: Godfrey Onyeka (Brampton, Ont.) – 3rd yr. – Laurier
Golden Hawks defensive back Godfrey Oneyka (Brampton, Ont.) has been recognized as the OUA Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending November 21.
Onyeka, a third-year biology major, had 4.5 tackles in the Golden Hawks 36-6 defeat at the hands of the powerhouse Rouge et Or.
Despite the outcome Saturday, it was another strong year for the Brampton, Ont. native after he finished second on the Golden Hawks with 40.5 tackles and four interceptions on his way to being named an OUA first-team all-star for a second straight season.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Godfrey Onyeka (Brampton, Ont.) – 3rd yr. – Laurier
Not only was Godfrey Oneyka (Brampton, Ont.) honoured for his defensive contributions but he has also been named the OUA Special Teams Player of the Week as well.
Onyeka, who was named a CIS first-team all-Canadian a season ago, had a special teams tackle and a fumble recovery in Saturday’s loss.
With under 10 minutes to play in the game, Onyeka recovered a fumble by Laval’s Antony Dufour to give the Golden Hawks back the ball inside Rouge et Or territory.
