Set scores were 25-20, 25-21 & 25-20. The first set saw Guelph forge ahead early on and lead 16-11 at the technical timeout. Brock narrowed the lead to one but the Gryphons expanded the lead again and took the set 25-20. Set 2 was close throughout with the teams tied multiple times late in the set but a 4-0 run allowed Guelph to win 25-21. Marauders rebound to beat Warriors in four
Undeterred after dropping the second set, the Marauders bore down and maintained their spotless start to the season at the Burridge Gym Friday. McMaster rebounded to defeat Waterloo in four sets (25-14, 17-25, 25-11, 25-17) and improve to 7-0 on the year.
The no. 3-ranked Marauders kept the heat on the Western Mustangs atop the OUA West standings with the win, drawing level with their rivals ahead of the teams' meeting in London Saturday, the final action of 2016 for the two programs.
Assuming her usual spot as Mac's leading scorer and highest-usage player, Joanna Jedrzejewska notched 17 points to lead her team, and the match, Friday. She killed 13 of 34 attempts versus four errors (.265) and added four aces in the win.
Teammates Aleks Arsovic and Rebecca Steckle also eclipsed the double digit mark in the point column, with 12 and 11 respectively, while rookie middle Kamila Haase was super-effective in a cameo appearance, putting down four of five hitting attempts without an error.
Setter Caitlin Genovy collected 39 assists for the Marauders, while libero Carly Heath shone with 18 digs.
After dominating the opening set to the tune of an 11-point margin of victory, the Marauders looked poised to continue on the front foot early in the second. But Mac's level dropped and the visiting Warriors jumped on the opportunity, taking the lead at the technical timeout before pressing their advantage, and winning nine of the next 11 points, to carry the set.
Bouncing back immediately, the Marauders reeled off a 10-point run at 2-0 down in the third, with Aleks Arsovic toeing the service line throughout. Two more dominant runs of play, with Maicee Sorensen and Genovy providing reliable service, saw Mac win 10 of 11 points from 14-9, and firmly put any thought of Waterloo momentum behind them.

Wolves fall in straight sets to Lancers
The Lakehead women's volleyball team lost to the University of Windsor 3-0 (29-27, 25-20, 25-16) tonight at the St. Denis Centre in Windsor.
It was a tight game from the beginning of the first set between the Lancers and the 'Wolves. By the technical timeout the Lancers led 16-13 but the 'Wolves quickly took the lead at 21-18. The Lancers bounced back and the two teams went point-for-point at the end of the set but the Lancers finished it off winning 29-27.
The Lancers started the second set with a 5-1 run but the 'Wolves took over, leading 15-10. However, the Lancers took back the game going on some big runs that led them to win the set 25-20.
In the third set, the 'Wolves once again had the lead at the beginning but Windsor was able to take it back and won the set 25-16.
Coach Green:
"Another game where this group fears winning. We are more physical but we have athletes that perform when it's convenient. They have POTENTIAL but not sure why the opportunity to execute is so hard to find. I think what we are missing is that player that WANTS that extra shot, wants to take on that big running back and wants to swing for the big kill. I have not seen such a dynamic and athletic group but I have had teams that loved to fight right to the end and then, regardless, they wanted to fight again for the next one."
Kailan Robinson led the 'Wolves with 14 kills and 10 digs. Sara potter had 9 kills, 8 digs and Leah Mousseau and Rheanna Geisel both contributed 7 kills each.
Melissa Smyth of the Lancers led her team with 14 kills.
"Windsors Jade Ziebarth and Smyth were lights out tonight and were so efficient that we had no answer for them what so ever" – Coach Green"On the positive we can dig with the best of them no question. We just need to find hitters who have that desire to perform everynight and want to perform for their teammates" – Coach Green
The Thunderwolves will have a rematch against the Lancers tomorrow at 2:00pm at the St. Denis Centre in Windsor.
