Queen's 20, Toronto 5
The University of Toronto Varsity Blues (0-3) were unable to secure a win on home turf Queen's University Golden Gaels (3-0) this past weekend. A dominant second half by the Golden Gaels saw them improve to a perfect 3-0 on the season to remain in first place in the East.
The Blues got on the board with a try from Erika Nardone (Toronto, Ont.) in the first. Also in the opening half, Lauren Young (Brantford, ON) of Queen's blocked a Toronto kick, gained possession and ran 20 yards for the try. After an even first half the teams were tied at 5-5 going into the second.
However, three unanswered tries by the visitors were enough to take control of the match. Laura Cooney (Amhertsview, Ont.) scored the first try 15 minutes after the intermission to put the Golden Gaels ahead.
Later in the second half Christine Wadsworth (Toronto, Ont.) and Rose Labreche (Markham, ON) each scored tries to put Queen's ahead by 15 and seal the victory.
The Golden Gaels top the east while the Varsity Blues are still looking for the first win of the season.
