LAURIER, QUEEN'S ADVANCE TO OUA LACROSSE FINAL
The Championship will take place on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at University Stadium. An admission day pass is $5. The game will also be available for viewing on HawkCast Live at www.laurierathletics.com/live
Laurier's scoring was spread across eight different athletes, with five of them each scoring a pair of goals. Heather McHardy (Whitby, Ont.), Amy Fincham (Whitby, Ont.), Kirsten Gerrie (Orillia, Ont.), Emma Pink (Orangeville, Ont.) and Braedyn O'Rahilly (Whitby, Ont.) were the ones that contributed to the effort while Kelly Bedore (Orangeville, Ont.), Amanda Groothuis (Kitchener, Ont.) and Megan Fox (Whitby, Ont.) each added a goal.
The Golden Hawks were down 6-5 at the half. Toronto's Yoko Murphy scored five of the Blues' goals in the first half of the game. Laurier responded with eight goals in the second half.
The Laurier women's lacrosse team has won the last five consecutive provincial titles. The last three seasons Laurier has seen the Gaels in the final and defeated them with scores of 9-6 (2007), 7-5 (2006) and 8-7 (2005).
In the other semi-final contest, Queen's beat Western 12-9 to advance to the provincial title game. Martha Ross led the Gaels with five goals and an assist in the contest.
Western will play Toronto at 1 p.m. in the bronze medal contest at University Stadium.
