GUELPH WINS THREE STRAIGHT AGAINST WINDSOR, QUEEN�S WINS NARROWLY OVER TORONTO
The University of Guelph (6-1) beat the University of Windsor (2-5) by a score of 3-0 in Saturday's volleyball action. The sweep moves Guelph into a respectable second place while Windsor is presently five spots below in seventh.
Second-year Gryphon player Andrew Revie (Guelph, Ont.) added to his CIS leading number of blocks with six more blocks as well as scoring five points without conceding any errors on the night. Andrew Bartram (Aurora, Ont.) was the leader of both teams by a large margin with 23 points including 20 kills and two aces.
The scores of the three sets were 25-18, 25-22 and 26-19. Myroslav Chwaluk and Harrison Oake (Tecumseh, Ont.) were the biggest point-getters for Windsor on the night, each accounting for nine points. It was not enough to overtake the powerful Gryphons who continue to strive for first place.
Queen's 3, Toronto 2
The Queen's University Golden Gaels (5-1) won a close match over the University of Toronto (1-4) as they defend their OUA title this season. It took five sets for the Golden Gaels to steal a win from the Varsity Blues on Saturday. The result puts Queen's in third place with a 5-1 record while Toronto have a 1-4 record, in search of a second victory.
Queen's started strong winning the first two sets but then leveled out which allowed Toronto to force a fifth set. The match was taking by a score line of 25-18, 27-25, 25-27, 24-26 and 15-12, clearly a tight contest for the duration.
Jeff DeMeza (Calgary, AB) was a star yet again for the Gaels, recording a team high 17 kills. Joren Zeeman (Cambridge, Ont.) was also a big contributor for Queen's with 14 kills and 16 points on the night. For Toronto, Steven Kung (Toronto, Ont.) earned the game-high 26 points an impressive 23 kills in the match.
