(Ottawa, ON) – The Ravens men's soccer team had a comfortable victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Friday evening at MNP Park for their first win of the season. It was a convincing performance from Sandy Mackie's team as they started the game with passion and were rewarded with two early goals.
Midfielder Rowen Martino opened the scoring in the 15th minute on a nice finish from a give and go to put the team up 1-0. Five minutes later, midfielder Tim Campos earned his first goal of the young season by heading home a corner kick delivered by Theodore Lopez de Castilla.
The Lakers had a few valiant attempts on goal, but nothing materialized for the team. One of the their best chances was turned away by the head of Lopez de Castilla who saved the shutout with a heroic goal line clearance off a threatening corner chance for Nipissing.
Mekonen Lovemore-White put the game away in the 68th minute when he nutmegged his way through a defender before smashing the ball short side into the back of the goal for the 3-0 lead.
"We played reasonably well in the first half by scoring two goals. The second half was a bit disappointing, but overall we got 3 points, and we didn't concede any goals," said Ravens coach Sandy Mackie after the game.
Special Mention:
Mekonen Lovemore-White was named the player of the game by the coaching staff.
1st year players Dante Cobisa (midfielder) and Mikael Meka-Mevoung (forward) both made their CIS regular season debuts today. Both entered the game in the 60th minute.
